NEET PG 2026 – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate

NEET PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate) is a national-level medical entrance examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for admission to postgraduate medical programmes in India.

NEET PG is the common eligibility-cum-ranking examination for admission to MD, MS and PG Diploma courses. It is also used for admission to Post-MBBS DNB, Post-MBBS NBEMS Diploma and other programmes covered under the NEET-PG admission framework, subject to the applicable rules. NBEMS states that state governments, private medical colleges and universities do not conduct separate entrance examinations for MD/MS/PG Diploma admissions covered by NEET-PG.

The NEET PG 2026 examination introduced an important change in its question-paper structure. The number of questions was reduced from 200 to 180, while the examination duration remained 3 hours 30 minutes. The paper carries a maximum of 720 marks, with five time-bound sections.

NEET PG scores are used in the admission process for applicable postgraduate medical seats through All India Quota, State Quota, private medical colleges, deemed universities and other participating institutions, according to the applicable counselling rules. Certain institutions, including AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER, NIMHANS and SCTIMST, are not covered for MD/MS admissions through the centralized NEET-PG route.
